On 3 January 2014, The Adoption (Designation of Overseas Adoptions) Order 1973 (the ‘designated list’) was replaced by The Adoption (Recognition of Overseas Adoptions) Order 2013.
The countries named in the new order are different from those listed in previous adoption laws.
An adoption effected under the law of any country or territory listed in the new order, not including a Convention adoption, will be recognised as an overseas adoption for the purpose of the Adoption and Children Act 2002.
The updated list of countries can be found here.
